Review: Metallica’s Death Magnetic
September 29, 2008I’m not a fan of Metallica and it’s not a good album. It’s a f*cking great album. It was their ninth studio album. The songs are fast, loud with awesome fast-faster-fastest riffs. I like All Nightmare Long (07:58), My Apocalypse (05:01) and That Was Your Life (07:08). I have read lots of negative review with this album but for me it’s not a bad album though I haven’t hear any full albums of Metallica. I think negative reviews of fans are due to a high expectation from Metallica. I rate it 3/5.
The Bedroom Secrets Of The Master Chefs by Irvine Welsh
September 28, 2008
I got this book for only Php 167.00 during a sale at Bestsellers Galleria. It was on a whopping 70% off. I haven’t read the book yet because I still have two books to read on the line. I also haven’t read any books from Irvine Welsh. But after I watch Trainspotting a movie by Danny Boyle based from the novel of the same title by Irvine Welsh, I became interested to read some of his work. Too bad that the book he wrote available in the store are quite expensive and I’m just lucky to get this one. After I read it, I will wrote some review though I’m not that good with this thing.

Want some milk?

Recently, the world is hit by a milk scare due to melamine content of China milk. This causes kidney related disease outbreak on almost 13,000 babies across China. The melamine contaminated milk was manufactured by China’s largest milk producers. The Chinese government and other countries that import Chinese milk brands recall all milk products that is suspected to have melamine content. Melamine is an organic compound that is often combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a synthetic polymer which is fire resistant and heat tolerant [WiseGeek]. Its description looks like it doesn’t fit on any food products, but why do they add it on milk? Melamine is rich in nitrogen, and relatively cheap. Adding it to sub-standard or watered-down milk makes the milk’s protein level appear higher. Standard quality tests estimate protein levels by measuring nitrogen content [Reuters]. This issue does not only affect the Chinese milk industry but also other China food products. Many countries implement strict policies regarding Chinese food products. I hope this so called milk products scare will be gone soon.
Just another Google Chrome review
September 25, 2008I tried this new offering from Google, their very own web browser. The good thing about this browser is that it is a clean and simple that wastes no screen space. It is surprisingly fast compared to other browser. Also have “incognito” mode that let you surf the web without leaving a mark. And just like other browser, there are also bad things about Chrome. One if these is reliability because it doesn’t support a number of site and online services. Chrome also lacks of support and customization like what we love about Firefox, but I’m sure that this is on its way. In terms of browsing security many users found out the lapses but some of them are already patched. Over-all the Google Chrome is not that far for being the top browser. But I think Microsoft will not let their own left behind by releasing Internet Explorer 8. Also Mozilla’s Firefox with the beta release of version 3.0 but according to them it (Chrome) will not compete with Firefox. Opera which rank a distant fourth on the browsers war said that “Chrome will strengthen the Web as the biggest application platform in the world” (AP). I use both Chrome and Firefox (the old version 2.0.0.3) alternately.
Who is Castiel?
“I’m the angel of the Lord”
He is the latest addition to the CW’s Supernatural series played by Mischa Collins. He is an angel said to be sent by God to rescue Dean from hell. The burned mark on Deans shoulder is Castiel’s hand print. Many speculations that Castiel mission was to use Dean in able to stop Sam. But it’s early to conclude on what is Castiel role on the life of the Winchester brothers.
The Dark Knight reached $5M?
According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, The Dark Knight earn $971,206,180(and still counting) at the box office not the figure above by IMDB. This is a technical glitch like what happened to Get Smart. Im thinking that someday Titanic will sink on the box office top spot and The Dark Knight is almost $700M away.
Where to find Books in Manila?
September 24, 2008

Q: What is a bookstore?
A: A bookstore is a store where books are bought and sold.
Here in the Philippines we have different bookstore to choose from. You can visit them at the nearest shopping center or town center. Some bookstores sell second hand or used books which cost as much as half the price of the new one. Other bookstore sells online and offer delivery services on books purchased online. I do love reading books and sometimes I find it hard looking for some titles. So I decided to look for the different bookstores here in the Metro (Manila). And here are they: Happy browsing!
National Bookstore: The most famous bookstore in the Philippines and also the largest with 92 branches and still growing. It is located mostly on shopping malls. They also sell school and office supplies. They also sell books online and delivery services. The bookstore called Bestsellers is also owned by NBS.
Powerbooks: It is a specialty bookstore that carries wide range of bestselling fiction and nonfiction novels. It also sells other books such as Religion and Philosophy, Psychology, Lifestyle, Architecture, Gender and Culture and a lot more.

They currently have six stores in the metropolis. Their flagship store located at Bonifacio High Street at The Fort which is a five storey building that houses a movie theater and other function rooms.
Goodwill Bookstore: It primarily carries textbooks and reference books. It has five branches in Manila and four in the provinces.
A Different Bookstore: It was one of the first independent bookstores to open its doors to the Philippine market in with its first outlet 1994. The company’s main thrust was to provide its readers with a “different” selection of books, and through the years the company has come to realize that its bookstores have made big differences in the lives of its readers. Approximately 90% of all bookstore inventories are imported from the United States and the United Kingdom.
Merriam & Webster Bookstore: The books that they sell are mostly reference books for primary, secondary and tertiary education. Like NBS, they also have a variety of school and office supplies.
Popular Bookstore: They have library and reference books, Specialized and general books on Arts and Literature, Engineering and the Sciences, Film, Gender studies, Health and Sports, Management and Finance, Mass Communications, Philosophy, Political and Social Sciences, Psychology and many more. Plus hundreds of books about the Philippines published by commercial and independent publishers, government and non-government institutions, and university press.
Bookwagon: Book Wagon is a unique specialty bookstore that offers recommendable and often award-winning children’s books to a discerning public, as well as quality and original music scores to the local market. Book Wagon opens its treasure trove of books written by renowned and acclaimed authors like Eric Carle, Cynthia Rylant, Maurice Sendak, Mem Fox, Leo Lionni, Margaret Wise Brown, Don and Audrey Wood, Dr. Seuss.
Rex Bookstore: It publishes law books, textbooks for high school, pre-elementary and elementary education.
Bound Bookshop: The owners of Bound bookstore are National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) chairman and Philippine Graphic editor-in-chief Inday Espina-Varona, ABS-CBN TV broadcaster Bernadette Sembrano, NUJP secretary-general and New York Times stringer Carlos “Caloy” Conde, NUJP officers May Rodriguez and Rowena Carranza-Paraan. This bookshop sells very affordable books that they say that is cheaper than other bargained books. They are located at 105-A Scout Castor Street, Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City 1103, Philippines.
Booksale: Is a bargained books and magazine store. They have lot of novels from fiction to non-fiction. The prices of their books are almost 50-70% from the brand new one. Booksale is located on most shopping malls in the metro. If you love reading books but you have a tight budget this is a must see bookstore. But if you can’t make it to the store, don’t worry they are also selling online. They also have rare and medium rare books.
Filbars: Although they are mainly in comics, local and international magazines. Some of their store also sells second hand books.
